The Lowry’s annual Open Day returns this August, a free, full day of interactive activities for visitors of all ages.

Held on Sun 6 Aug, from 10am – 5pm, there will be everything from sneak-peak backstage tours and standup comedy masterclasses to the chance to stand on the famous Lyrics Theatre stage.

Family-friendly gallery tours will be led by some of LS Lowry’s most beloved characters while a range of The Lowry’s partners including Rambert, Birmingham Royal Ballet, The National Theatre and Opera North will be running free workshops throughout the day.

Elsewhere, there will be LS Lowry Gin Cocktail making, music on the plaza and life-drawing classes.

Last year’s Open Day saw more than 4,500 people visit the venue across the day, with 1,300 of those enjoying backstage tours and over 1,200 visiting the Galleries.

This year, as well as enjoying the permanent LS Lowry exhibition, families will also be able to see Julia and Axel: 30 Years of Favourite Stories; a free family-friendly exhibition celebrating the acclaimed picture-book partnership between Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler.

Some events need to be pre-booked, but many are drop-in and completely free on the day. For more information, head over to The Lowry website.
