Open now and running until Sun 3 Nov, The Lowry’s brand-new free exhibition Queens celebrates the heroines of history and the modern world, while asking ‘what kind of Queen are you?’ with a dazzling array of drop-in activities, specially commissioned artwork, family-friendly events, live music and dance parties.

Featuring singing, dancing, games and suitably regal selfie opportunities, Queens draws inspiration from the smash-hit Tudor satire Six, a spectacular pop-infused tale told by each of Henry VIII’s wives as each take to the mic to remix five centuries of heartbreak with ingenious lyricism and triumphant girl power.

Curated by The Lowry in collaboration with Six creators Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss, the exhibition features the show’s original costumes alongside fan art, new commissions from artists and photographers and work by local Instagram legend, The Mancorialist.

Perfect for families with kids of all ages, Queens offers an endless variety of drop-in activities to enjoy every Tuesday through Sunday each week, including a cosy book nook packed with captivating children’s literature, board games and puzzles. The Silent Disco Ball cranks up the volume for a daily all-ages dance party, and The Lookout provides a selection of self-led activities like colouring, crafting and more.

Elsewhere, The Lowry provides a selection of irresistible food to suit every budget. Inspired by the exhibition, the Pier 8 restaurant transforms into the Queen’s Head pub, where visitors can indulge in classic beef burgers, hearty bowls of soup, delectable cakes and a range of Six-inspired cocktails, with live music performances from Dominique after the show on selected dates (Fri-Sat from 16-31 Aug). At 12pm and 2pm each day throughout the exhibition, the Queens Afternoon Tea offers an elegant feast fit for royalty, with finger sandwiches, homemade scones and other sweet delicacies available to enjoy in The Lowry’s breathtaking waterside setting.

Led by a professional dancer, the Six Dance Party welcomes guests to learn the show-stopping original moves from the production across a series of free, bookable 45-minute sessions every day.
