The back alley behind Hula on Stevenson Square will be awash with smokers and stragglers on Saturday 10 August for a day full of music and art. One Five Eight host a free exhibition of work at Kraak Gallery (across the pavement) from 2pm, before the Cunning Folk Festival itself kicks off from 3pm. At this time a three-pronged attack begins: artist Jay Smith co-ordinates art in the Alleyway; sound art, film and poetry collective Paradox take over the Kraak Loft (on the second floor); and the folk itself begins in the venue’s main space. Paradox will be bringing noise and readings from the likes of Eoin O’Connor, Stephen Waddicor, LOCEAN and many more. Screenings of short films plus artwork from Grey and Karl Whiting will adorn the walls, and there will be a DJ set from Luca Corda to get you dancing. In the main space Cunning Folk present many of their favourite bands including Politburo (pictured), Kingfishers Catch Fire and multi-instrumentalist Andy Blundell, playing here under the moniker Raikes Parade.
