Dick Whittington – and his Amazing Cat! have got you covered this festive season at Manchester’s newly reopened Contact theatre. Enjoy breakdancing cats, fabulous dames and LOLs galore in this new family show by Eight Freestyle.

You probably know the tale, although a few details have been changed. Dick, for example, is Wythenshawe born and bred.  However, London’s gold-paved streets prove too much of a lure and he and his breakdancing cat set off for the big smoke meeting villains and heroes along the way.

King Rat, who has is eyes on the Lord Mayor of London’s chain, is a steam punk nightmare. There’s a fairy godmother with a strong power ballad game, and love interest, Alice, really has the voice of an angel.

Pie shop owner, Freda, is a rainbow-hued delight. As is son, Jack, who we bet you’ll see popping up on CBBC after this heartwarming performance. The real stars, however, are the young actors, cast as everything from dancing cupcakes to street smart rats in this Southern tale with a distinctly Manchester accent.
