The National Trust hosts an inspiring balcony gardening workshop with Cloud Gardener at Castlefield Viaduct

On Wed 30 Jul, the National Trust are hosting an absorbing talk and workshop on garden design in small spaces and balconies with Jason Williams, aka Cloud Gardener, at Castlefield Viaduct, presented as part of the Sky Gardening Challenge Competition.

Taking place from 5.30-7.30pm, Cultivating balcony creativity with Cloud Gardener welcomes the RHS Chelsea Flower Show presenter and award-winning garden designer to lead a fascinating talk about balcony gardening design, before supervising another practical workshop about horticultural design in small spaces.

Free to attend with booking, the event includes an array of Jason’s top tips for getting creative with your balconies, alongside a planting workshop and Q&A, and your own plant pot to keep and take home.

Known around the region for his breathtaking garden design, best captured by his popular 18th-floor balcony in Manchester City Centre, Jason ‘Cloud Gardener’ has nurtured a passion for small-space gardening during the pandemic into an inclusive movement of urban horticulture committed to inspiring the next generation and encouraging residents to maximise their unique growing spaces in an accessible, sustainable way.

Running until Thu 31 Jul, the Sky Gardening Challenge Competition is an exciting and original new project in which participants are invited to green their balconies and window boxes, nurturing a connection with nature while fostering an urban environment that supports better wildlife.

Open to anyone living in a flat in Greater Manchester with a balcony or window box, the challenge offers small-space gardeners of all abilities the chance to win up to £350 of gardening-inspired goodies, vouchers and more.
