Moving away from its usual home of The Castle for a jaunt to the Town Hall Tavern, The Other Room brings its 39th celebration of spoken word and poetry later this month. A special one-off extra event will see internationally recognised text artist, conceptual writer and literary critic derek beaulieu read from his selected works. Currently teaching at the Alberta College of Art + Design in Canada, this is quite the journey for the author and editor of over 15 books on poetry, and will be well worth the trip. Joining him will be Tom Jenks, co-organiser of the event and published poet in his own right, and London-based sound poet Holly Pester, whose work experiments in frequencies of speech, song and articulated noise.

Sat 18 May, The Town Hall Tavern, 20 Tib Lane, M2 4JA, 5pm, FREE – booking recommended, otherroom39b.eventbrite.co.uk
