The Parliament Project is a non-partisan organisation which runs workshops to support women who want to enter politics. The group is hosting a free event this Friday evening at Stockport Town Hall, featuring two special guest speakers. Ann Coffey (pictured) has been the Labour MP for Stockport since 1992, and is chair of the all-party parliamentary group on Runaway and Missing Children and Adults. Laura Booth is the Councillor for Offerton in Stockport, and the council’s Champion for Disabilities. Her political history is rather unusual: she was originally with Labour, then left to go independent, then became a Lib Dem, but is now back with Labour. Titled ‘Exploring Your Political Pathway’, this event will delve into the stages involved in getting elected: joining a party, becoming an activist, through to selection and election. The workshop will also look into how women can best prepare for a role in politics.
