The Portico invites audiences into a humorous exploration of innuendo and double entendre this February.
The Prose of Mycock is the latest instalment in Dr Andy Mycock’s irreverent and unapologetically playful performance series following his sell-out comedy shows I am Mycock and the Joy of Mycock.
In this latest show, Andy dives into the recurrence and remarkable flexibility of “the cock” across English literature – from medieval metaphor to modern innuendo.
With readings of selected texts by the Portico Library’s Creative Producer, Dr Debbie Challis, and invited guests, the evening will unpack how “the cock” resonates through centuries of writing with comic, poetic, and cultural weight.
Other readers joining the event include actor and double entendre expert Arthur Bostrum, actor and book expert Neil Pearson and writer and singer Rosie Garland.
This show will raise funds for Portico Reunited, a once-in-a-lifetime project which will reunite all three floors of the library. Plans for the project were given the green light by Manchester City Council last month.
The Prose of Mycock comes to The Portico Thu 5 Feb. Book tickets below.
Thu 5 Feb, The Portico Library, 57 Mosley Street, Manchester M2 3HY
