Creative non-fiction night The Real Story returns for another outing later this month, at its regular home of Gullivers. The evening will feature a series of raconteurs delivering a variety of non-fiction pieces, with a headlining set from Michael Symmons Roberts (pictured), the Whitbread Prize winner and professor of poetry. He has published two novels, written dramas for Radio 4, and worked in the world of opera. At Gullivers, he will be reading from Edgelands: Journeys into England’s True Wilderness, a series of essays about the overlooked areas between the city and the countryside. Also appearing is columnist Adam Farrer, who will be telling of his childhood as a bullying victim, and the effects this had in later life. Novelist Marli Roode is discussing what happens when someone’s online identity collides with the real person. Nick Thompson will be reading a story about IVF from the male perspective: the logistics, anxieties, and even the humiliations.
