The Real Story Live is a regular series of spoken word events at Gullivers in the Northern Quarter, which celebrate creative non-fiction. The nights feature special guests reading true stories, personal essays and literary journalism. At the next event, which takes place in June, the headliner will be Amy Liptrot. Amy is the author of the recently-published book The Outrun, which deals with her recovery from alcoholism, and her subsequent return to her childhood home on the Orkney Islands. With its innovative blend of memoir and nature writing, the book has received great praise from critics. It was shortlisted for the Wellcome Book Prize, and earlier this year it was BBC Radio 4’s book of the week. Also appearing on the night will be a number of new and established non-fiction writers: Ebba Brooks, Holly Askenasy, Laura Tansley and Kate Jones.
