On Sun 16 Mar, the RNCM’s Young Explorers series blasts off on a live musical odyssey across the cosmos with a spellbinding afternoon of space-inspired classical masterworks, intergalactic video game soundtracks and new pieces by star-hopping students, alongside a variety of creative science workshops in which families can get hands-on with cutting edge sonic technology.

Hosted by esteemed musician and educator Mike Poyser, the concert promises to transport audiences on a mesmerising interstellar voyage set to an eclectic programme of iconic extraterrestrial arrangements, from Holst’s The Planets to Super Mario Galaxy and beyond, performed by one of the most successful contesting brass bands in the world, the KNDS Fairey Band.

Between performances, Poyser will unveil captivating scientific demonstrations and share fascinating facts about the curious relationship between space, science and music, while visitors of all ages can face off in the special retro video game arcade both before and after the show.

Ahead of the concert, families are invited to discover the boundless wonder of technology in music with a morning of inspirational workshops.  Young visitors can uncover the wonders of technology and creativity as they make music with plants using cutting-edge technology developed by Bionic and the Wires.

Elsewhere, the RNCM Centre for Practice and Research in Science and Music (PRiSM) hosts a workshop which unpacks the endless possibilities of a virtual orchestra, where games console controllers are transformed into musical instruments through the digital magic of coding.
