The Science and Industry Museum has revealed details of its next after-hours event which will feature a special Manchester Pride-inspired programme, later this month.

A diverse, adults-only programme of activities, demonstrations and performances will take over the museum on the evening of Thu 22 Aug in a late-night celebration of the LGBTQ+ community.

Guests are invited to experience the power of authentic spoken storytelling as LGBTQ+ professionals in STEM share their journeys, while Heard Storytelling has curated a lineup of unique live performances and developed PROUD, an inspiring audio-visual exhibition.

There will also be an opportunity to contribute to a community craft project inspired by the museum’s textiles collection and the colourful traditions of the LGBTQ+ social movement. Visitors can lend their creativity to a bespoke banner that will be proudly carried by the Science and Industry Museum team during the Manchester Pride parade.

In the Revolution Manchester gallery, delve into ideas that changed the world, from revolutionary wheels to our city’s role in the country’s creative industries. Volunteers will be running the museum’s replica Baby, the ancestor of every modern computer, and sharing more about LGBTQ+ icon Alan Turing’s contribution to the history of modern computing.

Museum After Hours includes access to the museum’s Textiles Gallery, where you can experience the thunderous sounds of machinery that were vital to Manchester’s famous textiles legacy.

In the interactive Experiment gallery you can indulge your inner child with hands-on science fun as you play and discover with magnetic art, heat vision, shadow walls and more.

Attendees can also enjoy access to the immensely popular Power Up — the museum’s ultimate gaming experience in which you can play both the biggest and rarest consoles and titles from the last five decades.

A pop-up bar will be selling a range of wines, beer and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the evening. Tickets are on sale now, grab yours using the button below.
