A new tavern inspired by the ‘unfussy, great British pub’ is set to open in the heart of Manchester’s St John’s neighbourhood.

Neighbouring the Bonded Warehouse, The Stables Tavern will open its doors on Fri 6 Jun. The venue will boast multiple taps with local beers, served with complimentary bowls of crisps, alongside traditional pub snacks like handmade sausage rolls and locally-sourced pies.

There will be outdoor seating at the front of the building, and at the back of the pub, there will be a parlour area for live entertainment and old school bar games.

The building has a rich history, and during the early 19th Century it was a busy watering hole for Manchester’s workers, merchants and visitors who passed through the city’s canals. The site was also previously home to Coronation Street’s iconic Rovers Return.

The latest addition in the recent redevelopment of the area, which has seen openings like Courts Club, Trading Route, Fenix and Aviva Studios, the pub returns with nods to its original identity.

Shiko Group, which operates other popular venues including Side Street and the neighbouring Courts Club, are behind the new project.

Hayley Sammé, Marketing Director, says: “We’re so excited to bring The Stables Tavern back to St John’s. The area’s extensive historical backdrop and burgeoning hospitality scene provides the perfect landscape for a traditional British pub. It’s the perfect addition to the existing scene, and we hope it’s going to become a popular spot in our new creative district.”
