Manchester’s most loved sporting is set to return next summer, bigger and better than ever, as the AJ Bell Great Manchester Run takes over the city centre on Sun 31 May with tens of thousands of runners hitting the streets once again for a celebration of fitness, fundraising and Mancunian spirit, cheered on by another blockbuster crowd.

Featuring both a 10k and a half marathon, the event welcomes runners of all ages and abilities, from first-timers starting their running journey to seasoned athletes ticking off their 50th race. Starting on Portland Street, participants will pass some of Manchester’s most iconic landmarks, with noisy local support at every corner and along every straight, before a triumphant grandstand finish on Deansgate.

From the electric buzz at the start line to buoyant on-course music zones and an event village that feels more like an after-party, the marquee marathon promises a joyous day of jogging amidst a uniquely Mancunian atmosphere. Whether you’re chasing a personal best, running for charity, soaking up the cheers supportive strangers or simply taking part for fun, this is a run like no other and a finish-line feeling you will never forget.

Last year’s event sold out in advance, with millions raised for worthy causes, and demand for 2026 is expected to be just as high. Runners are encouraged to sign up early to secure a place on the start line.

The celebrations begin a day earlier, with the return of the AJ Bell Junior & Mini Great Manchester Run. Taking place on the Etihad Campus, the kids will take centre stage on Super Saturday, enjoying a stadium start and finish and the same carnival spirit as the main event.

With fancy dress, high-fives and plenty of entertainment, children aged 3 to 8 will tackle a fun 1.5k dash, while Juniors aged 9 to 15 take on the 2.5k challenge as part of an unmissable event that brings the whole family together and forms a key part of the iconic Great Manchester Run weekend.
