Monthly vintage fair Vintage Village returns to Stockport’s Covered Market Hall on Sunday, with a Yanks In Stockport special. Celebrating the 1979 ‘Richard Gere goes to war’ film Yanks, which was filmed around Stockport market place, Vintage Village and the Military Vehicle Trust will bring back the spirit of the 1940s with wartime re-enactors and genuine military vehicles from the period. Ration-era favourites such as meatloaf and spam fritters will be served, and there will be 1940s-style crooning, vintage portraits and a demonstration of washing with mangles and dolly tubs. Inside the market hall the usual array of vintage clothing, curios, furniture, comedy kitchenware and dubious, faintly erotic 1970s paintings make for an excellent Sunday’s treasure hunting. Only issue is, if you have as little self-control as we have you’ll leave with your purses and wallets considerably lighter and your bags filled with globe-shaped ice buckets, nasal douches (?), and more pairs of Lady Mary-esque opera gloves than a 21st-century person should ever need.

Sun 8 July, 10am – 4pm, Stockport Covered Market Hall, Market Place, Stockport, SK1 1EU, £1 entry, under 12s FREE, www.thevintagevillage.co.uk
