Admissions at The Lowry is a biting new touring comedy starring Alex Kingston. You may know her best from ER and Doctor Who, but Kingston’s also had a prestigious stage career, having worked with Kenneth Branagh and the RSC. Here, she plays Sherri, the Head of Admissions at a private school. She is fighting to diversify the student intake and is happy to let everybody know it. However, when her son is turned down by his university of choice, and his best friend – who ‘ticks more boxes’ – is accepted, Sherri’s personal ambition collides with her progressive values. The play also stars Sarah Hadland, from the sitcom Miranda and That Mitchell and Webb Look. Admissions comes to the UK following a successful run at NYC’s Lincoln Centre Theatre, where it garnered critical plaudits for both its comedic and dramatic elements.
