Written by David Rudkin and rarely performed, Ashes is an emotive play that delves into the lives and worries and of a couple struggling to have children. Anne and Colin exhaust every avenue in their desire for a child. The process causes the pair to question their compulsion to become parents and their resilience as a couple. It is dark humour and stark realism which infuse the play, which despite being rooted in the 1970s is highly relevant today. The play is directed by Associate Artistic Director David Thacker and sees the return of Octagon Theatre favourite Colin Connor and Coronation Street’s Katy Cavanagh in the lead roles of Colin and Anne.
