Liverpool-based Tmesis Theatre are on tour with their latest production, Beyond Belief, dropping in to The Lowry to ask: what would happen if you could live forever? With clever choreographed sequences and ingenious physical theatre moves, the innovative new play has been described as “outstanding” and “tremendously effective”, yet it is as disturbing as it is entertaining. The story delves into the murky depths and morally dubious possibility of resurrection – the resurrection of your digital soul, that is; the lucrative business of glossy-on-the-face-of-it tech giants Beyond Belief in the not-too-distant future. Is there an afterlife, and, if so, could this be it – infinite love yet infinite loss and loneliness as our increasingly online and social media-based lives lead us along the path of being trapped in an everlasting existence… Be careful what you wish for – and be sure to check the small print and tick the opt-out box next time you sign yourself up to a shiny new online platform.
