Clod Ensemble’s interactive new performance, Placebo, explores the healing power of… theatre. The theatrical  dance performance, which comes to The Lowry this October, seeks to discover if art can provide relief to illness in the same way a medicinal placebo can. Following seven dancers through a series of ‘experiments’, it focuses on what makes us feel better, and what control we have over our treatment. Some of the experiments are undertaken with the help of the audience. Small movements are changed and changed again by the dancers, to create a real and fake version of the performance. Much like an actual placebo, the audience will question which version they have received. The show was created by Clod Ensemble, a long-established company known for works that across multiple art forms. It has an all original musical score by Paul Clark, and costumes by the non-binary fashion brand, Art School.
