Award-winning director Marianne Elliott returns to the Royal Exchange theatre with a critically-acclaimed production of Husbands & Sons featuring Anne-Marie Duff and Joe Armstrong. A former Artistic Director at Royal Exchange, Elliott’s credits include the Broadway production of War Horse and the National Theatre’s celebrated production of Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time. Husbands and Sons is a co-production with the National Theatre. Adapted by Ben Power, it is an interpretation of three of DH Lawrence’s greatest dramas (A Collier’s Friday Night, The Daughter-in-Law and The Widowing of Mrs Holroy)  and is set in the years immediately preceding WW1. The piece centres around the wives of three working class families living in a Nottinghamshire mining town, and includes Shameless alumni, Anne-Marie Duff.
