A new stage show, coming to Waterside, aims to peer behind the mask of people’s public faces to their private struggles. Offstage looks at loneliness and depression in a sensitive exploration of suicide. The work comes from Ephemeral Ensemble, an international physical theatre company founded in 2016. The group worked closely with closely with PAPYRUS (Prevention of Young Suicide) and L.A.S. (Life After Suicide) in creation of the play. Set in a dream-like universe, the hour-long show centres on Harley and Pedro, two performers doing whatever they can to help each other through their show night after night. It uses playful stagecraft, physical theatre and original music to capture the joys of the two performers when they’re onstage and struggles when they’re out of the spotlight. Due to its serious themes, it is only for ages 14 and above.
