Fast approaching its tenth anniversary, London-based international ensemble Theatre Re is touring the UK with a critically acclaimed show based around character Tom, who is getting ready for his 55th birthday party while struggling to come to terms with encroaching dementia. As Tom dresses for his do, tangled threads of his disappearing memories spark him into life, unravelling as a poignant and, at times, action-packed story of friendship, love and guilt. The Nature Of Forgetting explores what remains when memories have disappeared, and the thought-provoking and moving piece – which combines physical theatre, mime and live music – was programmed by the Latitude and Edinburgh Fringe festivals in 2017, and enjoyed a sell-out run at last year’s London International Mime Festival. Praised for their synchronicity, the four performers are carried along by the two musicians playing a score that reflects Tom’s feelings and challenges – from the quiet contemplation to a joyous crescendo.
