This week marks a very sombre anniversary: it is 72 years since the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. There are a number of events taking place in the area this Sunday to commemorate the bombing. On Sunday morning, Manchester Museum and the city council will be holding a joint event in the Museum’s Living Worlds Gallery. Lead by senior councillors, it will include readings, poetry and a minute’s silence for all victims of war and terrorism. There will also be a family activity workshop where children can make paper cranes and Manchester bees. Taking place on Sunday afternoon is a memorial picnic in Heaton Park. Attendees should meet by the Peace Tree in the garden centre for readings, poetry and music. Both events are supported by the local chapter of the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament.
