Chorlton’s Oddest bar is party central this week, with a range of free events to enjoy. First up are the Subterranean Sound Machine DJs (Wed 19 Aug, 7pm-midnight) followed by a super-chill special on Sunday (23 Aug) with the Adrift Balearic All-Dayer (3-9pm). If you like your sounds cutting edge but imbued with a serious dose of fun, Subterranean Sound Machine are a trio of vinyl collectors with a disregard for genre and an interest in the best of everything, whether it be Iranian psych, African disco, sci-fi soundtracks, classic funk and soul, or 1980s pop. Jack Carolan from Derry, Kat Ohlmann from Cologne, and Ana Miller from Whalley Range bonded over a shared love of musical obscurities and have DJed in various guises in Manchester over the past seven years, at different venues including Jack and Kat’s night Hairbrain where past guests have included Hudson Mohawke and Optimo. For those who like their sounds a little more laid back, Adrift is a monthly all dayer offering you a genre-spanning journey through uncharted waters. DJ Pip and co will be spinning Balearic treasures to ease you through the afternoon and onwards into the night.

Wed 19 Aug, Subterranean Sound Machine (and every Wed until 16 Sep), 7pm-midnight, FREE; Sun 23 Aug, Adrift Balaeric all-dayer, 3-9pm, FREE at Oddest bar, 414-416 Wilbraham Road, Chorlton, Manchester, M21 0SD. Tel: 0161 860 7515. www.oddestbar.co.uk
