The problem with summer in a rainy city such as ours is that nobody knows quite what to do with it when it gets here. Thankfully the 80 or so traders at this weekend’s Spinningfields instalment of Makers Market have a pretty good idea. Firstly, make a beeline for the filled watermelon bowls of the Twisted Melon Men who even have their own theme song to keep things extra breezy (they’ll sing it if you ask nicely enough). Indulge your sweet and vegan friendly tooth at You Narna, who serve vegan banana ice cream, followed by a tour of the rest of the stalls soundtracked by the vinyl picks of Pasta Paul on Saturday and DJ Tareck on Sunday. It’s not just summery food and drink on offer though. Check out quirky finds galore at ‘Vintage What Nots’ or the upcycled lights of Relic Engineering, with loads more Manchester tinged art and design to help you brighten up your living room. Of course if you are just here for the food and drink then you shan’t be disappointed with pies from The Cumbrian Pie Co, burgers from What’s Your Beef and dreamy chicken from Oh My Glaze. With two full days to tuck into, there’s plenty of time to come back and check out what you might have missed.
