Free comedy shows are becoming ten a penny in the city centre – a penny you found on the ground, so it still costs you nowt. With the success of clubs like Dead Cat Comedy and Quippotamus, it was only a matter of time before the idea of a free night of laughter would spread to the suburbs. With a title evoking one of the best Simpsons characters and a line-up that would rival any pay-in comedy club across Manchester, Thrillhouse comes to Burton Road in West Didsbury, and more specifically, the quirky bar and restaurant Mary & Archie. Master of ceremonies is the cheeky filth of Brummie ex-pat Rich Wall, with support from comedy bodybuilder Jayne Edwards and one-line merchant Danny Sutcliffe. To kick things off in style, Phil Ellis will be headlining, which is always a surprise package, and equally hilarious. A free night of comedy that proves the house doesn’t always win.
