Manchester’s skyline prepares to come alive once again as Bonfire Night returns with a bang – and with events taking place all over the city, this year looks to be a proper firework spectacular. So wrap up warm and grab a toffee apple as we round up our pick of the best. A full list of events taking place across Manchester can be found here.

Platt Fields
The big one if you don’t want to travel too far, Platt Fields will be illuminated with the biggest bonfire event close to the city centre. Taking place in the park’s show field, keep warm with German frankfurters, Asian street food and more from Manchester Markets before the giant bonfire takes centre stage from 7.30pm, shortly followed by a spectacular firework display. With queues inevitable towards the lighting of the bonfire, we recommend arriving early to secure your spot and make the most of the funfair.
Tues 5 Nov, Platt Fields Park, Platt Lane, M14 6LA, 5pm – 9.30pm, FREE, www.manchester.gov.uk

Heaton Park
A bit out of the way but as always with Heaton Park, you know it’s going to be worth the trip. With festivities beginning at 5pm, the famous park will be brought to life with fairground rides, craft stalls and pop-up stores offering street food, mulled wine and more. There’s a charge of £5 per car but with parking space limited public transport may be your best bet to ensure entry. Fireworks begin at 7.30pm followed by the lighting of the bonfire at 8pm.
Tue 5 Nov, Heaton Park, Middleton Road, Higher Blackley, M25 2SW, 5pm – 9.30pm, FREE, www.manchester.gov.uk

Chorlton Green
Chorlton Green will turn bonfire bonanza as it hosts not one but two firework displays, put on by the Horse and Jockey pub across the road. Choose between a 7pm display and later display at 9pm – or make an evening of it and stay for both. For the waiting around in between, there’s plenty to get your teeth sunk into as the Green offers up international flavours including bratwurst and traditional Lancashire black peas alongside mulled cider and wine, while the Bootleg Brewing Company will also be launching a limited edition treacle stout, Treason & Plot.
