If you’re after edge-of-your-seat entertainment, Waterside Arts Centre has something for you. The Sale hub is a major touring venue for theatre productions, with their new season playing host to everything from Oliver! to Jekyll and Hyde. We perused the programme to bring you these Wire picks of the best new theatre: a play in a pub, a digital dance piece and an interactive evening of real-world dilemmas.

A play in Waterside Arts Centre’s bar: Two
Ever been put off your pint by an argument in a pub? Set in the Waterside Arts bar, Two tells of the sparky relationship between a landlord and landlady in a Northern drinkery. In the award-winning play from Jim Cartwright, a pair of actors take on numerous roles as the colourful working class town is brought to life. This production comes from Is What It Is Productions and has an additional matinee performance for schools at 1pm (call 0161 912 5616 for details).
Thu 5 Oct, Waterside Arts Centre, 1 Waterside Plaza, Sale M33 7ZF. Tel: 0161 912 5616, 7.30pm, £12 (£6 schools), www.watersideartscentre.co.uk

One-woman multimedia spectacular: Mary Pearson: FoMO, Mofos!
A one-woman multimedia spectacular, Liverpool performance artist Mary Pearson (pictured) presents a new show that spins us through the world of Mullholland Drive, Robert Wyatt and Kraftwerk. This solo dance piece is all about a woman lost in a digital world – ‘FoMO, Mofos’ is an online abbreviation for “fear of missing out, mother****ers”. Amid the physical prowess and visual comedy, the show questions the consequences of incessant internet self-expression on the human psyche.

Nightmareish press conference: The Value of Nothing
There’s no sitting back in the new play from Laid Bare Theatre. In The Value of Nothing, you’ll find yourself in a nightmarish press conference for back-to-work programme ‘ArtWorks’. Will self-appointed people’s champion Vince Fine make the right choices? And will the workless find their voice? Through audience interaction, you’ll soon be involved with the lives of the characters. The Value of Nothing contains moments of multimedia and flashes of real world grit: it’s peppered with stories from young people living on benefits in the UK today.
