It’s not only restaurants and bars that are springing up in Manchester. Here’s the latest on three new hotels which are open already (Hotel Football) or opening soon.
Innside Manchester, First Street
‘Innside by Melia’, a boutique chain that was conceived in Germany, is launching its first UK hotel in Manchester. Innside will be part of the new First Street development, close to Deansgate. The owners are aiming for a design-led feel, with stylish but functional rooms aimed at both tourists and business visitors. The hotel will have over 200 rooms, including eight studio suites, plus meeting and event spaces. Featured will be a restaurant and bar called Street on First, which will be open to guests and the public. The menu will be inspired by international street food. Melia is the parent company behind London’s acclaimed ME Hotel on the Strand, which was designed by Foster and Partners. Innside has been designed by Reid Architects and is part of an overall architectural transformation of the First Street areas (pictured) by Simpson Haugh and Partners.
From May 2015, First Street, Manchester, M15 4FN, Rooms from £99, www.melia.com
Hotel Gotham, King Street
You may already know of No. 100 King Street, the castle-like building which houses Jamie’s Italian. The floors above the restaurant are currently being converted into the boutique Hotel Gotham. Don’t worry, it’s not Batman themed, but the owners are embracing the building’s Art Deco interior to give it a retro, quirky feel. It will feature a restaurant, and a roof-top bar/club. Along with its regular 60 rooms, the hotel will have four £300-per night ‘inner sanctum’ suites, each with a different exotic theme and a private indoor garden. Gotham comes from the Bespoke Hotels chain, which has venues throughout the UK.
From Apr 2015, 100 King Street, Manchester, M2 4WU, www.bespokehotels.com
Hotel Football, Old Trafford
Manchester United: love ‘em or hate ‘em, there’s no denying they bring a lot of tourists to the city. Capitalising on this is the imaginatively-titled Hotel Football, situated opposite Old Trafford. The décor is about as tasteful as you would expect from a place co-owned by Gary Neville and Ryan Giggs: the walls are adorned with Man U memorabilia and footy-inspired artworks. This ten-storey building has a rooftop pitch, and areas for conferences and other events. Open already, the cafe is affordable and unpretentious, offering meals like fish ‘n’ chips and pizza, with two courses from £16. The ‘creative director’ behind the food is two Michelin star chef, Michael Wignall. It’s getting rave reviews. Watch this space for more.
Now open, 99 Sir Matt Busby Way, Manchester, M16 0SZ. Tel: 0161 751 0430. Rooms from £50, www.hotelfootball.com
