Test Card is an audio-visual event series hosted at Texture that aims to push boundaries. Events are open to all and suitable for sonic explorers, sound manipulators, tech buffs, VJs or simply those interested in a night out with a difference. The venue is Texture, a creative events space, club and bar in the heart of the Northern Quarter – and the organisers have just announced Test Cards Autumn programme. Our highlights are as follows:-

Talk & Performance: 2bitpunk
The 2bitpunk alter-ego has been Michael Speechley’s vehicle for his creativity in sound and visual performance since the 1980s, so he has a wealth of knowledge to share across the development of electronic gadgetry and expressive sound engineering.
Mon 24 Oct, Texture MCR, 7-10pm, £2, www.eventbrite.com

Party: Test Card 1st Birthday Bash ft. Moomin (live)
Head down to this knees-up to mark the end of a year in the business for Test Card. The organisers have enrolled Berlin-based minimalist Moomin’s subtle progressions in deep house to lubricate the night’s sound system. Expect this one to sell out.
Fri 28 Oct, Texture MCR, 10pm-3am, £7/15, www.partyforthepeople.org.uk

Jazz: Live Improv Jazz ft. Some Some Unicorn
Over 50 abstract musicians have contributed the Some Some Unicorn’s recently released second album, the exquisitely titled Unicornucopia, and a selection of these will join band leader Shaun Blezard for an engrossing free jazz drone. They’ll be joined on the night by a roster of live illustrators. Free entry, but registration is required.
