We head back in time at Waterside with the revival of a John Godber classic, a trip to the seaside in the Seventies and a look at four inspirational women who helped shape our world. Meanwhile, April’s programme in Sale also puts our life goals and any taboos remaining in the 21st century under the spotlight.
Theatre: Bouncers
Thirty-five years after it premiered at Edinburgh Festival, the international smash hit comedy by multi award-winning John Godber OBE is back. With an updated script to bring the story into the 21st century, it remains a funny, energetic and theatrical story about a Yorkshire nightclub told from the point of view of the blokes on the door, Lucky Eric, Judd, Les and Ralph.

Theatre: Unsung
Starring Lisa Holdsworth, new play Unsung explores the untold stories of four pioneering and inspirational female figures who made – or ought to have made – British history, but who, like hundreds more, have largely been relegated to the footnotes. Ada Lovelace, mathematician and computer pioneer, 1815-1852; Sophia Jex-Blake, physician and teacher, 1840-1912; Lilian Bader, one of the first black women to join the British armed forces 1918-2015, and Andrea Dunbar, playwright 1961-1990. Theatre: Seaside Terror
Also taking a trip down memory lane is Seaside Terror, combining puppetry, masks and a specially composed score to revisit the slightly scary and sinister seaside of the Seventies. Put your order in with the ice cream man on the dilapidated pier and you’ll get more than you bargained for as he reveals his strange stories of Evil Seagulls, Zombie Donkeys and Bingo Hairballs.

Comedy: Patrick Monahan #goals
Multi award-winning comedian and Edinburgh Fringe favourite Patrick Monahan is on tour around the UK with his latest show, #goals, in which he explores his – and your – life goals. We all have them, from secretly wanting to win the lottery to getting hitched before we’re over the hill, and the Irish-Iranian stand-up would like you to make it your goal to come along and share your must-haves and must-dos.

Theatre: The Orange Peel
This dark new play from multi-award-winning company TilThisNight, supported by Stephen Fry, explores what it is to be a twentysomething in today’s divided world through the eyes of two brothers and their partners when they get together for dinner. A tragi-comedy for 2019, The Orange Peel unwraps what taboos still surround wealth, knowledge, sex and power, and uncovers whether blood is really thicker than water.
