Like all great cities, there is much to see by tilting your head skywards when walking around Manchester. Art in Architecture, a tour originally conceived for the Love Architecture Festival but now back by popular demand, aims to draw your focus to the artistic details, old and new, that decorate the city’s buildings. Run by the excellent Skyliner.org (Manchester Blog Award winner 2011), the walk is a celebration of the Cottonpolis’ hidden public art, taking in everything from Ford Madox-Brown’s career-defining classical murals in the Town Hall to Lemn Sissay’s poetic paving slabs in the Northern Quarter. Places are limited so advance booking is recommended.

Sat 7 Jul, Art in Architecture, meet at Fopp, 19 Brown Street, M2 1DA. Time TBC, £5, theskyliner.org/tours, booking essential through theskyliner.org@gmail.com
