It’s a familiar tale: Scottish improv drummer meets English medieval scholar-singer, forms psyche-folk band and, for their fourth album, collaborate with alt-country legend Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy. Trembling Bells are about more than famous connections or the ‘familiar’ however. They bring earlie musik and folk-rock, the traditional and the baroque, together in a deliciously hypnotic, scholarly and ethereal tapestry. Cosmic country-rock collective Dan Haywood’s New Hawks provide support; an inspired pairing of two bands influenced by British landscapes and rooted in musical heritage – but delivering fresh genre-defying sounds.
