True crime stories may seem to be everywhere, whether it’s in the form of whodunnits or dark explorations into an offender’s life but The Listening Room brings a fresh and raw approach to the form. Years after trial and prosecution, five people who have had their lives transformed by violent crime were given the chance to meet the person on the other side. The Listening Room explores what happens when they’ve said yes in what The Spectator described as ‘a painful, shocking, vital, uplifting experience’. The play, the winner of The Chris Donovan Trust Restorative Justice Award for Best Play, questions the themes of life, death, and justice, as well as what to say to someone on the opposite side of a world shattering experience. Called, ‘art in its truest form’ The Listening Room challenges and shocks audiences but does not leave them bereft of hope. After each production in the studio, there will be a post-show talk.
