Controversial food critic and star of The One Show, Jay Rayner is appearing at Manchester Jewish Museum in June as part of Prestwich Book Festival. One of the few national critics to bother to come to Manchester (he’s eaten at Australasia, Cicchetti, Hand Made Noodle King and many more), Jay has put his opinion of many of our city’s finest restaurants in print – so expect a lively debate. As well as a Q&A session, Jay will be introducing his new book, Greedy Man in A Hungry World, which combines food fact and memoir. Son of agony aunt Claire Rayner, this is a rare chance to find out what makes this culinary kingpin tick.

Thu 6 Jun, Manchester Jewish Museum, 190 Cheetham Hill Road, M8 8LW. Tel: 0161 834 9879, 7.30pm, £15, www.manchesterjewishmuseum.com
