Ensuring their exhibition programme remains at the forefront of our cultural calendar, the Science and Industry Museum’s latest headline exhibition Turn It Up: The Power of music is another world-first for the venue and a joyous afternoon for kids and adults alike.

A fascinating exploration of sound and its ability to inspire, shape and alter, the programme features cutting-edge research, impactful art installations, AI robots and deeply personal stories that shed light on our unique relationships with music.

Wandering through the living and breathing space, different soundscapes transport visitors through each immersive section. Opportunities to try your own hand at music-making come along frequently, and you’ll quickly find yourself channelling the inner DJ you never knew existed as you attempt to match beats and keys.

Tracing the history of musical instruments, installations range from vintage pyrophones to futuristic MiMu gloves which create sound purely by waving your hands.

It’s the personal stories that really bring the exhibition to life, though. From musical origin stories shared by the likes of Elton John and Ed Sheeran, to deeply personal tales of how music has helped guide people through grief and their most difficult moments.

Eye-opening, captivating and at times wildly uplifting, Turn It up: The Power of music is a hit for the whole family. Running until Sun 21 May before beginning an international tour, you can book your visit now using the button below.
