Manchester is set to become home to the UK’s first indoor bike park from May, as Dirt Factory gears up for launch at a new site in Mayfield as a pop-up for the next two years. The brand new park will see close to 2,000 tonnes of reclaimed soil sculpted across a 25,000 sq. ft warehouse at Mayfield, creating a family-friendly site catered for mountain bikes and BMX. Housing a range of exciting bike trails and features designed for riders of all ages and abilities, the project is the brainchild of five avid cyclists who have raised just over £430,000 through crowd-funding in 2016. Speaking on the exciting future of Dirt Factory in Manchester, co-founder and Managing Director Dan Makin said “as well as the opportunity to ride a range of indoor bike trails and features, the Dirt Factory Pop-Up will offer bike hire including e-bikes and a host of exciting events”. The site is expected to be open for up to two years before moving to a permanent home at a larger facility in Greater Manchester, with long term plans for the 24-acre Mayfield site to be transformed into a world-class urban quarter.
