Zaïmph is the latest – solo – vehicle for experimental noise artist Marcia Bassett. Whereas earlier work (Double Leopards, Un, Hototogisu) often led with brutal guitar noise, her myriad releases as Zaïmph use electronic and synthesiser drones to create apocalyptic soundscapes. Live shows often incorporate video projection but with a penchant for the unconventional and the improvised, nothing can be certain of tonight’s rare outing, here in a Whalley Range church. Support from avant-primitivism duo Part Wild Horses Mane On Both Sides and ex- Vibracathedral Orchestra guitarist Bridget Hayden. One for the open-minded and heavily ear-proofed.
