This June, the Contact Theatre is presenting an immersive, site-specific audio artwork. Unexpected Items is a one-day-only experience that will take place at that world-renowned hub of all things creative: Bury Market. Visitors will wind their way through the maze of stalls selling books, records, and (presumably) black puddings, while wearing headphones. They will hear real-life stories, and also some fiction, as told by the people who know the market best – the stall holders. You can expect poignant anecdotes, tall tales, and a fair bit of wisdom. This sound experience is the work of Steve McWade, an artist who specialises in fusing audio and visual elements. The Unexpected Items event is a presentation by Re:Con, the Contact Theatre’s team of young programmers and producers. Tours will take place throughout the day, but advance booking is recommended. Please see the website below for details.
