After popping up at markets around the city, supplying various cafes and shops, and serving artisan bread from a small stand in Hulme Market, Uprising Bakehouse has set up shop in Chorlton. Uprising Kafe sells its signature loaves, as well as wholesome meals, coffee supplied by local roasters and cakes. They specialise in sourdough, spelt and wheat-free baking, and their natural approach has been extended to the interior – which is entirely made up of furniture that’s been recycled, upcycled or handmade. Meal deals are served in the afternoon for £4.50 and you can get a selection of whatever is on the menu (which changes daily). Today there was a mushroom and onion quiche, with gratin dauphinoise potatoes, and celeriac salad with roast squash and almonds. In time, they’ll also be serving dishes made from ingredients that have been foraged locally, meaning Uprising will likely be an instant hit with the eco-conscious Chorlton crowd.

Uprising Kafe, 260 Upper Chorlton Road, Chorlton, M16 0BN, Mon – Sun, 8am – 8pm, www.facebook.com
