Upswing – Showdown brings a wildly entertaining circus competition to Lowry

This weekend, six talented acrobats face off in a breathtaking showdown that blends mesmerising physical skill with whip-sharp humour to crown ‘the new face of circus’ at Lowry.

Billed as a thrillingly unique competition in which the esteemed contestants vie for the ultimate big top title, Upswing – Showdown invites audiences to vote for their favourite performer across a jaw-dropping evening of daredevil stunts, insightful comedy, spoken word and circus, set to a propulsive soundtrack packed with grime, afrobeat and UK hip-hop.

Brought to life by a team of acclaimed theatre creatives Including Upswing’s Artistic Director Vicki Dela Amedume, rising comedy star Athena Kugblenu, and London-based musician Afrikan Boy, Showdown offers a spellbinding and playful exploration of our obsession with glory, unpacking the nature of sacrifice as each round challenges the contestants to examine their own drive to win, while a healthy dose of gleeful chaos and regular heart-stopping surprises keep audiences guessing until the final flourish.
