When it comes to summer sports spectacles, Wimbledon is pretty good, but it isn’t a patch on the Ashes. As the battle commences down at Trent Bridge, Ashley Cricket Club throw their annual beer festival, where things are likely to be a bit less heated and a little more refreshed. Serving 10 different ales – including the summer, Cricket inspired beer Long Hop from Bollington Brewing, as well as drops from Marble and Beartown – as well as a couple of different ciders and perries, too. Entertainment over the weekend doesn’t just come from seeing who has the edge in the battle for the urn, but also in live music, a cricket match on each day – with Altrincham FC fielding a team on the Friday – as well as BBQs, chilli and pulled pork to feast on. Depending on the result of the first test, this should be the perfect way to celebrate or to drown your sorrows. Those attending, be well aware – the festival’s trademark is the killer two-pint-take-home-carton.
