It may just be another rainy Tuesday for most – but it’s a momentous day for the longstanding arts venue Islington Mill. Today, their team have revealed that the National Lottery Heritage Fund have approved the venue’s funding bid that will help repair, refurbish and expand this much-loved space, ensuring its existence in the North West arts scene for decades to come. This latest cash injection will complete the James Street venue’s capital fundraising project that was set at over £2 million, joining funds from Arts Council England, Salford City Council and countless Islington Mill supporters who helped raise over half a million pounds. With money secured, the multi-disciplinary arts and performance area can move forward with plans to build a new roof, add weather proofing measures, improved entrances, an exterior lift and also a brand new creative space on their fifth and sixth floors that will be used for live performance, work and events. Full plans for the venue will be unveiled over the coming weeks and months – however all those interested in finding out more about what the future holds for Islington Mill should keep an eye on their Twitter page.
