Weekend of Words invites you to explore the public places and secret spaces of the iconic Victoria Baths – literally on Sunday 9 June with the Tales, Talks & Tours day and literature-ly on Saturday 8 June, when the events include the premiere of six specially commissioned short stories inspired by Manchester’s Water Palace. Collectively called Re/Place(s) and performed in the middle pool illuminated by magical projections, this will be an atmospheric, entertaining and social evening, with the bar open and the writers in your midst. Victoria Baths’ inaugural Writer-in-Residence Sarah-Clare Conlon is joined ‘on stage’ by Kate Feld, David Gaffney, Phil Olsen, Joe Stretch and Lara Williams, whose critically acclaimed short story collection Treats is followed up with the novel Supper Club, out on Penguin this July. From baptisms to wild swimming, expect some real watery wonders to wash over you. Grab a drink and a deckchair and dive in!
Fri 7 – Sun 9 Jun, Victoria Baths, Hathersage Road, Manchester, M13 0FE, Tel: 0161 224 2020, times & prices vary, victoriabaths.org.uk
