Get ready for the documentary play, Who Cares, directed by Matt Woodhead. Based on the words of young people providing round the clock care for family members, the play explores the plight of hidden young carers in Salford and across the UK. According to the Carers Trust, 800,000 young people across the UK are providing full-time care to their adult relatives – many in complete isolation.

Since the pandemic, nearly 40% of young carers say their mental health has deteriorated and they have had to spend on average 10+ hours more a week caring for a loved one. The pandemic has left a new cohort of young carers who are waiting to be found. This autumn, the play which has subsequently been broadcasted on BBC Radio 4 and performed at The House of Lords, is touring across the nation.

The theatre company are also partnering up with local young carers services and theatres to identify unsupported young carers, along with local schools, professionals and other services to advocate and raise awareness for young carers in their area.
