Despite Manchester’s strong history of bank holiday BBQs, the last few years have been pretty hit and miss. However, this looks like a sure-fire classic and natural successor to the Friends & Family events at Kro, as long time pals Wet Play and Red Laser team up at First Chop Brewing Arm for a day/night full of jerk chicken and some of the best DJs Manchester has to offer. Talking of those DJs, with Mikey Don at the head of the bill you know you’re in for a party – known primarily as a reggae DJ, he’s still capable of schooling you with hiphop, funk and all that good stuff. There’s quality all the way down the lineup with Manchester stalwarts such as Il Bosco and Randy Marsh backed up by the younger generation, led by rising star Metrodome. Advance tickets are selling at £7 and things kick off at 3pm until late, so there’s plenty of music for your money here. First Chop Brewing Arm is a refreshing change to the usual BBQ haunts, with its archways offering protection from the elements if necessary, but maintaining that summer party flavour. It’s anticipated that this will sell out and tickets rise to £10 on the door, so acting early is advised.
