After last year’s celebration of alternative devices in Manchester (which included film screenings in a car scrapyard), the aptly-named Abandon Normal Devices festival brings its roster of new cinema, digital culture and art to Liverpool this October. Here are three events not to miss:

1. ALL THE FUN OF THE FAIR

Tuck into wild sights and sounds at the inaugural AND Fair. This mysterious and magical experience takes its inspiration from ‘World’s Fairs of old’. Look out for optical illusions, flying machines, biological probes and computer algorithms. Includes projects being developed by AND favourite artists and more. Sat 5 Oct, FACT, FREE, www.andfestival.org.uk.

2. FREE ARTY PARTY, LAZERS + A CRAZY MEXICAN VEHICLE

Opening night includes Festival highlights such as the chance to preview new work by controversial artist/documentary maker, Mark Boulos, an immersive cinema-type experience (the future of cinema perhaps) courtesy of Marshmallow Laser Feast and first look at SEFT-1 (pictured), a road and rail vehicle created by Mexican artists Los Ferronautas. Thu 3 Oct, FACT, FREE, www.andfestival.org.uk.

3. FEARLESS FILMIC TAKE ON ROMEO + JULIET

Rengaine is a French take on Romeo and Juliet – and just what the physician ordered for those feeling jaded with the indie film scene. This hard-as-nails drama was directed by former boxing champion, Rachid Djaïdani and is not to be confused with the men’s hair growth supplement, Regaine. Fri 4 Oct, FACT, £4, www.andfestival.org.uk.

Thu 3 – Sat 5 Oct, Various venues, Liverpool, www.andfestival.org.uk
