Canadian duo Crystal Castles entered the electro scene in 2008, since which time they have ridden a hype-infused wave to cult status. With the recent release of their third full-length album, the band have evolved from experimental 8-bit and screech-pop towards a darker, more mature sound that confidently embraces elements of trance and rave. Producer Ethan Kath generates electronic havoc on the synth and guitar, while singer Alice Glass’s alternately furious and ethereal vocals add a fragile yet desperate quality. Crystal Castle’s live shows are famously wild, with stage-climbing, crowd-diving and satanic writhing part of Glass’s repertoire.
