Despite the sad death in 2010 of his creator Chris Sievey, Frank Sidebottom’s fame lives on. With a Michael Fassbender-starring, Jon Ronson-penned movie “loosely inspired by” his life-story currently in production, the papier-mache headed entertainer is honoured once again by this charity lookalike contest and musical extravaganza. The winning impersonator in Sidebottom’s Got Talent will have to impress a panel of his showbiz friends, including TV’s Maxine Peake. There’ll be an exclusive screening of unseen TV pilot Frank’s Celebrity Sleepover and the original members of Frank’s favourite power-pop combo The Freshies will reform for the evening. Musical highlights include an appearance from Wigan surf-beat combo The Stags and a DJ set from The Smiths’ Mike Joyce. All proceeds go towards the Frank Sidebottom Statue Fund, which is close to raising the £60,000 necessary to build a memorial statue in Frank’s home of Timperley, near Altrincham.
