Cory Chisel returns to Manchester next week, having played Glasgow’s Celtic Connections for his second consecutive year. The son of a Minnesota preacher, singer-songwriter Chisel was raised on hymns and Johnny Cash – plus his uncle’s blues collection – before discovering classic inspirations like Otis Redding, Tom Waits and Townes Van Zandt. All these timeless influences, catalysed by Chisel’s resonantly weathered vocals and incisive lyrics, simmer beneath Old Believers, his latest album with band The Wandering Sons. Having recently shared the stage with Frank Turner, Norah Jones and Justin Townes Earle, he brings his soulful folk-blues to The Castle on Tuesday 21 January. Support from Ash Mountain and Chloe Foy. You can win a pair of tickets by sending the answer to the following questions, along with your name, age, Twitter handle, to competitions at manchesterwire dot co dot uk. We’ll contact the winner on Monday 20 January.
